About Union Hotel Restaurant

Step back into time for a unique dining experience at the union hotel restaurant... The hotel was constructed of hemlock logs during the heyday of the Susquehanna canal (c. 1794). Some of the original canal beds still exist in front of the building. At one time the hotel probably played an important part in the lives of the people who journeyed up and down the river and canal. According to an old map, a sawmill was located on the run just north of the hotel, so during the old days, the hotel was ideally located. The Union Hotel Restaurant is a fine dining experience featuring a 1790's atmosphere complete with candlelight, warm hearths and food service catered by servers in colonial attire. The menu is superb, offering selections ranging from 28 oz. prime rib (King Cut) dinners to filet mignon, lobster tails, unusual pasta dishes, PLUS bear steaks, frog legs and 'gator tail (all in season). The RESTAURANT will be closed from Monday, June 29 through Monday, July 6. The Tavern will remain open Friday, July 3 through Sunday, July 5. Live music on Friday evening,July 3 with Jeff Stike from 8pm-12am, Saturday afternoon, July 4 with Four by Four from 1pm-5pm and Sunday afternoon, July 5 with Nothin' But Trouble from 1pm-5pm.

DELICIOUS FOOD!!!

Posted by abbyeisner on 10/5/2009

Outside of the obviously beautiful historical building, and the accentric period themed waiting staff, the food is amazing! The prices are well worth the tastebud celebration you are sure to have after indulging in ANY of their dishes, from homemade bread and butters, to mouth watering soups and appetizers, to the beautifully prepared entrees! You will certainly enjoy your meal out no matter what you choose from the menu. The atmosphere is just the icing on the cake! My husband and I celebrate our anniversary there every year, and our favorite thing to do on the way there is think of what we will order. We always leave more than pleased! I am still daydreaming of the tomato bisque I had there this past weekend!

Relaxed and Friendly, with great food and atmosphere!

When you want a relaxed, old time dining experience, this is the place for you! The entire package emits an atmosphere of days gone by! From the old buildings of Port Deposit, to the older building of the Union Hotel, to the dress of the servers, and even the quality food! If you can remember the days when "Dining" meant a complete experience, then you will feel comfortable and happy with your visit here. From the minute you turn onto the tree lined shady road leading out of Port Deposit, and begin experiencing the twinkling of the sun as it passes through the trees, you are mesmerized, and slip into a state of relaxation that can only be found far in the past! Once you arive, it just gets better by the moment. The overall atmosphere makes you feel like you've discovered something long since lost. The people are truly friendly, The pace is easy going, and the food is made the old way too . . . Time spent well for the taste treats you'll find here. I personally love the Crab Dip! Make it a point to try some on one of your next visits. You'll want to come back time and again! As an added bonus . . . the weekends become a haven for those with a bit of adventure in there soul. You may see a large number of beautiful motorcycles stopping in for refreshments at the cabin bar next door, while taking a break from riding. For these visitors, there is Pit Beaf, Ham etc., or they can also order from the restaurant menu> Once again, these are some of the nicest people you wouldn't expect to run into, so don't be afraid to wander around looking, and by all means . . . the riders love to show off thier toys, so feel free to ask questions. If you find yourself not wanting to leave, it's probably because of the great music, and fun comradery. If you plan on spending the day (and most do), bring some ear plugs! This side is a bit less subtle than the restaurant side. Live music of the best kind is normally heard on many weekends. Come on out! You'll be glad you did!

historical as well as great food

The Union Hotel is one of my favorite places to eat, it is small, not overcrowded, the waitresses wear bonnets and dresses of old. The tables are not perfect and neither is the floor because the place is very old. It was an inn used for the railroaders to come to, a place they could get a bite to eat and clean up and rest. The owners have kept everything all origional, it has alot of flair, alot of old antiques inside to keep you occupied. There are two private rooms if you want to invite a larger party. Their menu includes appetizers such as soups, frog legs, crap dip, and there dinner included prime rib falling off the plate stuffed with crab meat, twin lobster tails that will surely melt in your mouth, and a chicken breat stuffed with crab meat as well. There are fresh mini loaves of bread served before the meal, with sweet honey butter to top it off with. If you are looking for a romantic, private atmosphere, this is it, enjoy it and tell your friends.

Great Colonial Ambience - very romantic and cozy with old stone fireplaces, stone floor and personnel dressed for the time period. Food prices are a bit high, but the food is generally very good. Don't expect large portions for the price. There are seperate areas for families with kids.
